Reading more into the book Victor makes friends with a white woman by the name of Martha Flowers and her son after they were accused of stealing hotel breakfast. Martha is trying to find her husband who is a black man by the name of Samson who was recaptured, and Victor starts helping her. Victor also confesses to Martha that he is a bounty hunter out to recapture slaves in order to have his own freedom. Victor is starting to question the morality of his job and it’s interesting to read about. I feel as though slavery would’ve been abolished eventually even if the Civil War never happened. Slavery was retreating across the nation even before the civil war especially in the North, in with enough industrialization and time it could’ve been possible for slavery to end “peacefully”. Since it is the big change in history this book wants to cover the book could end up being more implausible than plausible depending on how crazy it gets.

Info on if slavery could’ve ended without the Civil War here: http://civildiscourse-historyblog.com/blog/2015/3/24/could-slavery-have-died-a-peaceful-death
