The third and longest counterfactual history Laurent Binet went into was mainly about if the Incas, more specifically, Atahualpa who is known as the last emperor of the Incas took Christopher Columbus’s ships and sailed to Portugal. Atahualpa and his crew stumble across “Men in white and brown robs, tops of their heads shaved” who I assume to be monks. The Incas performed and meat burning ritual to appease their sun god but much to their disgust the monks ate the cooking meat. Atahualpa starts making moves towards conquering the country with his brother Huascar who in real history engaged with an Incan civil war with him. Atahualpa successfully conquers Portugal then moves on to Spain. The reason I feel as though this is implausible is because his brother who was suspicious of Atahualpa for rebellion would just come to terms with him. Also the Incas were defeated by the Spanish in real history easily because of more advanced weaponry, I feel as though if they were to battle the Spanish even farther into the future it would have been an easy victory for Spain, but it was not.
